Friday the 13^th (April) Candidate Straw Poll

Several of our members requested we do a straw poll for the Federal and Statewide Partisan Races.  These polls are unscientific and may be a poor indicator of the actual outcome.  After all, if straw polls were good indicators, Michelle Bachmann would still be in the Presidential Race.  On a serious note, Delegates should not let the outcome of the straw poll influence their vote at convention, but instead vote for the candidate personal research indicates best supports their issues.

163 of the almost 200 dinner attendees chose to vote in the straw poll

38 of the dinner attendees identified themselves as a state delegate.  Most of those present were county delegates with only 5 federal/statewide candidates purchasing a table.

Carrie Dickson has been involved deeply in the caucus/convention system in the State of Utah for over a decade.  She has participated as precinct officer, county and state delegate, County and State Party officers, volunteer and organizer.  Carrie has been involved with virtually every aspect of caucuses from redistricting a decade ago to data input following caucus meetings.  She has also been actively involved in the county and state conventions from reserving the hall to sweeping the floors after everyone else has gone home. Carrie currently serves as the Republican State Party Parliamentarian and also serves as parliamentarian to Salt Lake and other counties throughout the State.  She has been a Professional Registered Parliamentarian since 2004.

Long time local political pundit.
When he writes, people take notice.

Paul started his media career as a copy boy and obituary writer with the Salt Lake Tribune. He became the assistant city editor at the Tribune before joining United Press International (UPI).  At UPI he was the state government and legislative reporter and was named Salt Lake City bureau chief for UPI.  He returned to the Tribune becoming the business editor and later joined in writing a favorite political column “Rolly & Wells” with JoAnn Jacobsen Wells until she retired and he began soloing.
